Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Responsible for the creation of the overall vision and goals of Oklahoma Athletics photography department. Takes a lead role in ideating and creating engaging content and capturing moments that tell the story of our athletic programs and student athletes. Collaborates with the graphic design staff and other external units to align creative strategy and story-telling in all uses of captured photos, including created graphics and other creative media.
 

  • Primary contact for department on all photography-related requests and coordinate with sport programs and departments beforehand on specific photography needs for each event
  • Manages the department's digital archive, performing accurate editing, correction, and photo organization.
  • Oversees staff, student interns and freelance staff to ensure adequate coverage of events and functions and a cohesive style across all department photography
  • Manages department budget and work with other departments to maintain budget integrity for their project requests.
  • Attends and take photos at photoshoots, department events and games
  • Designs on location photoshoots for each sport program, providing both sport staff and external areas with high-quality headshot and portrait-style photographs
  • Performs accurate editing, correction, archival and file storage in a timely manner; follows department procedures and standards for adding metadata and photo organization.
  • Works with external vendors to provide them with requested images and other assets.
  • Secures and maintains equipment; including cameras, lenses and studio lighting with oversight on usage and distribution for specific events
  • Collaborates proactively with creative staff colleagues including but not limited to Graphic Design, Communications, Marketing, SoonerVision and coaching staffs; to ensure consistent output of high-quality photos in line with OU Athletics visual brand.
  • Participates in new content development and idea generation to help drive the brand and narrative of Oklahoma Athletics
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends with occasional travel to cover events and functions.
  • Captures moments behind-the-scenes and on and off the field through photography
  • Operates various photographic equipment such as DSLR, digital cameras and lighting equipment
  • Creates purposeful story-telling and conceptualizing and capturing content via camera

 


Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree Graphic Design, Photography, Communications, or related field

Experience:

  • 6 years of professional photographer experience
  • Photography experience must include in-game sport photography and studio or location photoshoots

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to produce quality content promoting both our individual players and team brand
  • Advanced knowledge of high-definition (HD) cameras, videography, and creative lighting techniques
  • Ability to conceptualize and demonstrate skillful storytelling and editing abilities
  • Experience with DSLR Camera and lighting equipment
  • Understanding of photography composition, camera settings, lenses and equipment
  • Proficient in photography related software including but not limited to Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Photomechanic and INFLCRetc.)
  • Strong understanding of marketing strategies and social media trends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Experience in Digital Asset Management systems, knowledge in metadata, organizing and archiving files
  • Knowledge in wireless file transmitting and FTP systems.
  • Ability to adhere to University, NCAA and conference rules


Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to travel
