Supports the installation, maintenance, inspections and repair of irrigation systems across campus grounds and landscaped areas. This position works under direct supervision and assists experienced staff in troubleshooting irrigation issues, performing system repairs, and ensuring efficient water distribution. The role also supports general landscape and seasonal maintenance tasks as needed.

• Assists in troubleshooting irrigation problems and identifying malfunctioning system components.
• Participates in training sessions and safety meetings
• Helps repair and replace valves, solenoids, sprinkler heads, emitters, pipes, and related irrigation parts.
• Performs basic excavation and backfilling of ground holes and trenches.
• Participates in inspecting irrigation lines and areas where low-voltage electrical issues may occur.
• Assists with installing new irrigation systems for landscaped areas this includes assisting with lay pipes, install valves and control boxes, connect irrigation heads and emitters, and run low-voltage wiring
• Assists with seasonal system start-up and shutdown, including draining pipes and checking backflow preventers.
• Monitors system performance and report issues to the crew leader or supervisor
• Maintains accurate inventory of parts, tools, and supplies
• May assist with preparing material requests and communicate with vendors to obtain pricing and availability
• Supports snow and ice removal operations, including shoveling and applying deicing materials
• Assists with seasonal system start-up and shutdown, including draining pipes and checking backflow preventers
• Programs, tests, and adjusts computerized irrigation controllers and satellite stations.
• Assists with general landscape tasks such as planting trees, shrubs, and flowers.
• Performs other duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Education:

• High School diploma or GED.

Experience:

Required:  None.

Certifications or Licenses:

• Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date

• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in order to exchange information
• Basic math and computer skills
• Ability to use hand tools, small power tools, and follow written and verbal instructions
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn irrigation systems
• Read and understand complex written materials such as blueprints, metrics or technical manuals
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to learn industry-standard tools, techniques, and safety procedures.
• Ability to follow safety guidelines and maintain a safe working environment
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Physical:
Regular exposure to physically demanding tasks such as digging, heavy lifting, bending and stooping, considerable use of arms, hands and leg movement. Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, digging, and lifting or carrying materials and equipment typically up to 50 pounds. Regular use of hand tools, power tools, trenching equipment, and irrigation-related machinery. Must follow all safety protocols when operating equipment. Work may involve exposure to moderate to loud noise levels and equipment vibration. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, work boots, and hearing protection when required

Environmental:
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.  Exposure to extreme temperature changes.  Handling dirty materials.  May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures.  May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies. May be required to work outside of normal working hours. May encounter dust, dirt, pollen, mud, water, and uneven terrain. Work may also involve exposure to insects, plants, and other natural hazards.
