Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of technical procedures in operating medical diagnostic ultrasound equipment.

·        Performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients.  Monitors and interprets medical diagnostic scans.
·        Performs correlation analysis and clinical history of examinations.
·        Consults with physician regarding patient's history and ultrasound procedures and practices.
·        Reports equipment malfunctions or failures to appropriate personnel. 
·        Trains personnel in use of ultrasound equipment.
·        Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.


Minimum Requirements:

Education:

Required: Associate¿s Degree in Allied Health and completion of an approved one-year program in Ultrasound Technology.
Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 24 months experience in lieu of the Associate¿s Degree.

Experience:

Required: No experience required.

Certifications or Licenses:

·        Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications.
·        Must obtain the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification within the first 6 months of employment.
·        Must obtain the Nuchal Translucency Certification within 1 year from hire date.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

·        Ability to operate sonographic equipment.
·        Ability to evaluate sonograms in order acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
·        Ability to use independent judgment to acquire diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
·        Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team.
·        Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the health care team.
·        Ability to follow established department procedures.
·        Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.


Working Conditions:

Physical: Ability to lift up to 100 pounds; frequent lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; frequently standing, stooping, and walking.

Environmental: Exposure to radiation; exposure to patients who are ill.
