Job Duties:
Pawsitive Indulgence is seeking motivated students for a semester-long internship in B2B outside sales, business development, and account management. This is a hands-on opportunity to build and manage real wholesale business relationships while developing professional sales experience.
Interns work primarily independently. Administrative work—including prospect research, phone calls, emails, follow-up, planning, and account management—can be completed remotely. However, this is an outside sales position, and regular in-person contact with prospective and existing business clients is required.
Interns will:
• Identify and research prospective wholesale customers, including pet boutiques, gift shops, groomers, veterinary offices, specialty retailers, and other appropriate businesses.
• Contact and visit prospective businesses to introduce Pawsitive Indulgence and present our wholesale program and products.
• Develop prospects into new wholesale accounts.
• Manage the accounts they acquire throughout the entire semester.
• Visit established clients weekly or every other week, depending on the individual client's needs and preferences.
• Build long-term relationships with owners, managers, and buyers.
• Follow up between visits by phone, text, or email as appropriate.
• Assist customers with orders, reorders, new products, and routine account needs.
• Identify opportunities to increase sales and expand existing accounts.
• Maintain organized records of prospects, contacts, visits, follow-ups, orders, and sales activity.
This is a full-semester commitment. Interns who demonstrate strong sales performance, professionalism, reliability, and the ability to develop and retain business relationships may be considered for a permanent sales/business development position at the end of the semester.
Minimum Qualifications:
Currently enrolled college student. Must commit to the internship for the full academic semester. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable approaching business owners, managers, and buyers in person. Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision. Dependable with excellent follow-through and organizational skills. Must be comfortable with outside sales, prospecting for new business, and maintaining ongoing client relationships. Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, smartphone, and reliable internet access required. Must be able to travel locally to prospective and existing clients throughout the Oklahoma City metro area. Must be available to visit established accounts weekly or biweekly, depending on each client's needs. Professional appearance and conduct required when representing the company.
Preferred Qualifications:
Students studying business, marketing, entrepreneurship, sales, communications, management, or a related field are encouraged to apply. Previous experience in sales, retail, customer service, fundraising, hospitality, campus leadership, or other people-facing roles is helpful but not required. Interest in entrepreneurship, small-business growth, pets, retail, or consumer products is a plus. We value confidence, initiative, persistence, professionalism, relationship-building ability, and willingness to learn more than previous formal sales experience.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to travel independently to local businesses for sales calls and account visits. Must be able to enter and move throughout retail and other business locations, carry product samples and sales materials, and occasionally lift and carry product or sample boxes up to approximately 30 pounds. Must be able to drive between multiple client locations when necessary.
Additional Comments:
This is not a traditional office internship. The position combines the flexibility of remote work with real-world outside sales experience. Prospect research, emails, phone calls, follow-up, planning, and administrative work can generally be completed remotely and around your class schedule. In-person prospecting and client visits are an essential part of the position.
Interns will gain hands-on experience with the complete B2B sales cycle—from identifying prospects and making the initial approach through closing accounts, managing relationships, generating repeat business, and growing a customer base.
Compensation is commission-based, allowing earnings to grow with sales performance. Details of the commission structure will be discussed with applicants before accepting the position.
This internship requires a full-semester commitment because interns will manage the business relationships they develop. Successful interns who demonstrate strong sales performance, reliability, professionalism, and the ability to retain and grow accounts may be considered for a permanent sales/business development position at the end of the semester.
